Cable Accessories

Cable accessories are critical components in electrical systems that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transmission of electrical power. Their primary function is to terminate, joint, connect, and protect cables from a variety of operational and environmental stresses. Without proper cable accessories, cables can be prone to electrical faults, insulation breakdown, mechanical damage, or environmental degradation, which can compromise the performance and safety of the entire electrical network.
These accessories are designed to meet industry standards (IEC, IS, IEEE, or OEM specifications) and are suitable for low, medium, and high voltage applications, including Extra High Voltage (EHV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems.

1. Cable Lugs

Purpose: Cable lugs are used to terminate cable ends and facilitate a secure connection to electrical equipment, busbars, or other cables.

Key Features:

  • Made from high-conductivity materials like copper or aluminum.
  • Suitable for low, medium, and high voltage cables.
  • Designed for crimping or soldering for mechanical and electrical integrity.

Applications:

  • Connecting power cables to switchgear, transformers, and panels.
  • Industrial and utility installations requiring reliable connections.
2. Cable Glands

Purpose: Cable glands are used to securely attach and seal the end of a cable to electrical equipment. They provide strain relief, mechanical protection, and environmental sealing.

Key Features:

  • Made from brass, aluminum, stainless steel, or plastic.
  • Provide ingress protection (IP) against dust and water.
  • Accommodate armored and unarmored cables.

Applications:

  • Indoor and outdoor installations.
  • Power plants, industrial plants, telecom equipment, and outdoor enclosures.
3. Heat Shrink Tubing

Purpose: Heat shrink tubing is used to insulate, protect, and provide a sealing layer over cable joints or terminations.

Key Features:

  • Made of thermoplastic material that shrinks when heated.
  • Offers electrical insulation, mechanical protection, and environmental sealing.
  • Available in various colors, diameters, and shrink ratios.

Applications:

  • Insulating splices and terminations.
  • Protection against moisture, chemicals, and abrasion.
  • Stress control for high-voltage terminations.

Installation:

  • Slide over the cable or joint.
  • Apply heat using a heat gun or oven until it tightly conforms to the cable surface.
4. Cold Shrink Tubing

Purpose: Cold shrink tubing provides insulation, protection, and sealing for cable joints or terminations without the use of heat.

Key Features:

  • Made from pre-stretched elastomeric material on a removable core.
  • Shrinks automatically when the core is removed, forming a tight seal.
  • Excellent for high-voltage applications where heat application is not feasible.

Applications:

  • EHV/MV/LV cable terminations and joints.
  • Hazardous or confined environments where heat application is restricted.

Installation:

  • Place over the joint or cable end.
  • Remove the core to allow the tubing to shrink and conform to the cable.
